Beckham East and West Parish Council

Good morning, all Beckham Walkers. Martyn and I are leading the walk on Sunday. We propose to walk from our house, past the solar panels, on into East Beckham and then return to west Beckham along quiet roads. The paths are wide but uneven in places with some possible muddy bits, depending on the weather over the next few days.  The walk is just under 4 miles. To find us, our address is Marlpit house, Sheringham rd West Beckham. NR25 6PF. If you are coming from Cromer, turn left off the A148 at the Sheringham park junction. We are about a 1/3 mile on the right down a private drive located just before a large oak tree. There is also a sign saying Marlpit house opposite the drive. Our house is at the bottom of the drive where there is plenty of parking. You are invited for tea/coffee and scones afterwards so please let me know if you can come. Good afternoon everyone

I’m away for a few days from tomorrow so I thought I should get this sent in case I forgot!   I thought we could do the walk at Bayfield starting from the Glandford Barns and Cley Spy with a mixture of sunny paths and shady woodlaned.  A stop for a coffee or a cool drink on the return to the cars can be included.  The weather in the current forecast looks sunny and warm so sunhats and sunscreen may be necessary.

Walking Sunday is this coming weekend and, as suggested last time, we are on the hunt for foxgloves.  I went to Sheringham park a couple of weeks ago and thre were a lot of foxgloves in bud so I thought we could try there – we might just catch the end of the rhodies as well!. Meet in the main car park at Sheringham Park. Following some requests, as we have no bell ringers with us on Sunday, I would like to change the start time of the walk to 10.30 am

I have a spare ticket for anyone who isn’t a member.

Walking Sunday approaches with a good weather forecast!  As we have ticked off snowdrops and primroses it is time to catch the last of the bluebells.  One of the best displays is at Blickling in the Great Wood so I suggest we meet in the car park there as it is a long walk from the main car park.  To find the car park you need to go through the village of Itteringham Common.   If you come via Itteringham take the left fork at the Walpole Arms, then continue straight through the small village and you will find the car park on your right where the road does a sharp left bend. The car park is marked on the Ordnance Survey map – TG162297.  As ever the lane is rather narrow – take care!  There is the opportunity for walks of different lengths through the wood and the park and we can discuss how far we want to go when we arrive..

Usual meeting time of 11.30am.  It’s quite a long walk to the coffee shop at the Hall or we can go back to the shop in Itteringham if we want a coffee stop.

It looks as if the weather will hold for our walk around Plumstead on Sunday.

We will meet at Nick and Linda’s house, Carpenters Cottage (NR11 7LG)   at the usual time. Their house is opposite the church and flagpole in Church Street in Plumstead village  .Linda says – We can accommodate 5 cars in the drive and any more can park further down Church Street,  no Church service.  The walk is 3.5 miles.  Bring your sun hat!

Linda can provide refreshments afterwards.

Good morning, walkers,

Lorraine has contacted me about Sunday’s walk – the weather is looking good at the moment. She says:

My proposal is to meet in Gresham and head across the lanes and footpaths to Sustead. The tracks I covered are a tad boggy and sticky in a few places, but generally reasonable considering the state of other areas I’ve investigated during the week. I’m hoping the dry weather will improve the situation, but I would advise sturdy footwear and being prepared for a little mud! Regarding the meeting place, I had hoped to be able to suggest parking in the village hall car park, but there are notices each side of the gate stating that parking is for users of the hall only, so, depending on how many cars are expected, I think we can use the space in front of the entrance gate if available, and on the road alongside the west side of the churchyard. The walk I did today was approximately six miles, but it can be shortened to about four and a half.

Meet at 11.30 as usual – there is no coffee shop, so if you wish to soak up the sunshine with an al fresco coffee on your return please bring a flask!

Good morning everyone

I went on th hunt for snowdrops yesterday and I found some! – Thanks to Julie’s good memory.

We are off to Mannington this Sunday so please meet in the Bure Valley Community centre, in Itteringham, back car park at 11.30. We will walk a shorter way to Keeper’s Cottage then up the track to the road to the Hall then into the ruined chapel garden. We will return over the fields to Itteringham. I hope it won’t be too muddy as we have a dry week ahead with some showers on Saturday. It’s going to be cold so remember your layers but not the sleet showers as originally forecast just grey and overcast!

Good morning walkers

The weather forecast is looking promising, but chilly, for our walk around Sheringham Park before lunch at The Dales on Sunday. For those planning to walk before lunch we will meet in The Dales car park at 11.30 then exit via their Park gate for a circular walk around the park for about an hour then return to the hotel car park to change muddy shoes etc before lunch. If you do not wish to walk and will join us just for lunch, it is booked for 1pm. When I called in to drop our choices off last Frday the restaurant was full of another walking group who had done the same!

Good morning evryone

I have just had a look at the weather forecast for the weekend and we have yet more strong winds to contend with coming from the north plus some light rain. I thought we could walk on the Stody estate starting from Hunworth village Hall but there is no coffee there as the Hunworth Bell is closed. Another choice could be on the Bayfield Estate – rather closer to the sea but with a coffee shop at the end! I’m putting it to the vote so please let me know what you would prefer asap and I will get back to the walkers who can make this Sunday!

Good afternoon everyone – and the sun is still shining!!

The weather forecast ahs improved for Sunday so I have planned a walk starting at the Roamn Camp car park. Take the West Runton turn off the A148 by the Roman Camp Inn then turn left onto a track at the top of the hill. \there should be a National Trust sign at the end. Follow the track atking care over potholes until you reach the parking place on your right.

From there we will walk through the woods and down the ridge to join Calves Well Lane then turn east to west Runton, cross the road to go across the Links Hotel Golf Course then around the base of Incleborough Hill towards East Runton, joining the footpath to climb the ridge through Edward’s Plantation and return to the car park. The walk is about 4 miles with some uphill on the return but not too steep. The paths should be dry.

Usual meeting time at 11.30am in the car park. Do let me know if you can come.
